Laura Mansell was born in Germany.

Living in Manchester in 1915.

Joined the army on 19 Jan 1915 aged 21 as a private in the 12th Manchester regiment, later posted to the Loyal North Lancashire regiment. A machine gunner in France he was wounded several times and had part of a finger amputated.

Annie became pregnant at 17, possibly by one of the Landers sons at the 'big house'. Her father would not allow her to keep the baby (Fred John) so he was sent to a workhouse in Ironbridge. Fortunately he was adopted when he was 5 by the Mansells of Edgmond, Shropshire.
